HISTORY OF THE SOUTH DAKOTA HALL OF FAME
Land of infinite variety
The people of our state are as diverse as the landscape. It is the people of South Dakota, past, present and future, who are remembered and recognized by the South Dakota Hall of Fame. Individuals from all walks of life are recognized who have contributed to our progress, forged our way of life and shaped our values.
Honoring those who contribute
The South Dakota Hall of Fame honors those who built our great state and those individuals who continue to contribute to future developments of the state. With pride, we honor their accomplishments so all people will know and understand that our rich and fascinating heritage is a product of people.
Official Hall of Fame
The South Dakota Hall of Fame is the only resource in the state dedicated exclusively to the preservation and extension of our people's heritage. The South Dakota Legislature understood the importance of honoring our people when in 1996 they named the South Dakota Hall of Fame the official Hall of Fame for the state of South Dakota.
Perfect Location
Established in 1974, the South Dakota Hall of Fame is centrally located in Chamberlain, where it will serve as a showcase for the people of South Dakota. It was specifically founded to recognize and honor pioneers and outstanding leaders from all walks of life who have contributed to the development and heritage of South Dakota. More than 400 South Dakotans have been selected for recognition by the Hall of Fame.
